Garver's Tulsa Office Adopts Highway

Garver’s Tulsa office recently adopted a highway through the Oklahoma Department of Transportation’s Adopt-A-Highway Program, which began as part of an anti-litter campaign in the summer of 1987.

“I've been wanting to get our office involved in Adopt-A-Highway for a while now,” said Project Engineer Andrew Snyder, who initiated Garver’s involvement. “It’s a great community service opportunity that assists one of our best clients, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.”

The two-mile stretch of adopted highway runs between E. 21st and E. 41st streets on U.S. Highway 169. Garver’s commitment includes picking up litter at least four times a year for a two-year period.

“Backs were sore for two days, but seeing a clean roadway lined with trash bags we helped fill was pretty satisfying,” Andrew said. “Moreover, working alongside co-workers outside the office was a great way to interact with each other outside the office.”

“Volunteering is a team-building, client-assisting, community-improving event that takes less than a day and instills a sense of satisfaction from a job well done,” Andrew said.

Garver Hosts Pre-Engineering Students at Corporate Office

Bryant Middle School robotics students recently toured Garver corporate offices in North Little Rock, Arkansas to familiarize themselves with what a working engineer does on a daily basis. The students built robots for an upcoming robotics competition, which they brought to share with Garver.

“The design and programming skills some of these kids exhibit are incredible,” said Garver Senior Electrical Specialist Mike Massey. “I’ve gotten a peek into the future of engineering, and it looks bright.”

“The students would not stop talking about Garver the entire ride back to school,” said Jason Price, who teaches pre-engineering at BMS. “The excitement of being an engineer was more present than ever before."

Garver is a proud sponsor of the pre-engineering program at BMS, which is a Project Lead the Way school. PLTW is an internationally recognized provider for STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) curriculum and teacher training.
