August 19 is National Aviation Day

In 1939, President Franklin Roosevelt declared August 19 National Aviation Day. The date coincides with the birthday of Orville Wright who worked with his brother, Wilbur, to design and build the first successful powered aircraft, which took flight in 1903. Since then, aviation technology and infrastructure has come a long way. At Garver, we work with airports to ensure the runways they use every day are prepared to withstand the massive weights applied to them every day. For example, Garver and its teaming partners recently worked with Huntsville International Airport to allow the airport to handle cargo planes with a take-off weight of up to 987,000 pounds! A smidge heavier than the Wright Brothers’ famous plane, which had a maximum take-off weight of 745 pounds.
